NEW YORK, 31 May 2021 – Three African artists – two from Nigeria and one from Tanzania – are among those nominated for this year’s American BET Awards.
One of the three – Nigerian-born Burna Boy – was already crowned winner of the international category last year.
The other two are Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz and Nigeria’s Wizkid.
In mid-March 2021, Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category at the Emmys, while Wizkid won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyonce: Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King.
The Gift album, Beyonce’s daughter Blue Ivy was alo a winner on the song.
Artists from the United Kingdom and from France have also been nominated in the same category.
Next June 27, the BET Awards will be handed out during a live performance that will feature an audience, after last year’s edition had to be held virtually because of the new coronavirus pandemic.
The event is expected to be dominated by American artists, of course.
American artists Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby have each received seven nominations in this year’s awards and Cardi B and Drake have been nominated for five awards each.
