ALGIERS, 2 November 2020 – Algerian President Abdelmaiid Tebboune remains hospitalized in Germany for “medical check-ups”, according to a statement from state media.
where he was evacuated after being briefly admitted to a hospital in Algiers on Tuesday.
He was first hospitalized on Tuesday in Algiers, days after many of his aides and government figures tested positive for COVID-19.
It is unclear if Tebboune himself has tested positive for the coronavirus. He had gone into five days of self-isolation prior to his evacuation.
The hospitalization comes days before a referendum on proposed changes to Algeria’s constitution which Tebboune has been campaigning heavily to see approved.
