OUAGADOUGOU, 4 March 2021 – Five people, including a pregnant woman, have been killed in a landmine explosion close to Burkina Faso’s border with Mali.
The explosion blew up an ambulance in which the victims were traveling in Gaskindei.
Officials say the ambulance was carrying the pregnant woman, her husband, a girl and two other women.
No group had claimed responsibility for the attack on Thursday but many past attacks in the area have been claimed by jihadist militants of the al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State group.
Violence triggered by armed insurgents in the northern and eastern parts of Burkina Faso has killed more than 1,000 people and forced an estimated one million people from their homes in recent years.
