CAIRO, 22 February 2021 – Egyptian authorities say they will receive 6.8 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, the country’s health minister, Hala Zayed said Monday.
Inoculation will prioritize the elderly, healthcare workers, those with underlying health complications and emergency workers.

Vaccinating doctors will be done within weeks, followed by citizens, said Hossam Hosni, head of the scientific committee to combat coronavirus in Egypt.
So far, Egypt has secured 100 million doses of COVID-19 jabs, 40 million of which will be come from GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, according to health minister Zayed.
“We were the first African country to receive vaccines and start a vaccination campaign,” Zayeb said.
Open enrollment for vaccination aginast the virus will open next week on an online platform, according to officials in the health ministry.
