ADDIS ABABA, 20 December 2020 – Three people have been killed and five others injured after an abandoned bomb exploded in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The abandoned bomb went off in the Lideta neighborhood of Addis Ababa, according to Alemayelu Ayalke, a senior commander of the Ethiopian police.

Those killed in the bomb blast were homeless, living in the streets of Lideta, according to the police.

Ethiopian authorities insist that there is no link between the explosion of the abandoned bomb in Addis Ababa and the ongoing war with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

Ethiopian federal forces have been battling TPLF forces in the northern region of Tigray since last November 4.

The state-owned Ethiopian News Agency reported Sunday that an investigation into the incident is ongoing, adding that “the public will be informed once the investigation is completed”.
