MEKELLE, 22 December 2020 – The daughter of former Ethiopian Meles Zenawi, Semhal Meles, has been arrested, according to several news reports.
The BBC reported the arrest Tuesday citing her mother, Azeb Mesfin.
Reports say Semhal Meles was arrested in Mekelle, capital of the northern region of Tigray, where Ethiopian federal forces have been fighting forces loyal to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) since last November 4.

The BBC said she had travelled to Mekelle before the conflict to conduct research for a film about her late father.
It is not known what, if any, crime she is charged with.
Meles Zenawi led the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front to victory in the Ethiopian Civil War before serving as President of the Transitional Government of Ethiopia from 1991 to 1995.
He became Ethiopia’s second Prime Minister of Ethiopia from 1995 until his death in 2012.
