ACCRA, 1 November 2020 – At least 22 people have been killed in the collapse of an unfinished three-storey building housing a church, according to officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

The accident happened Tuesday while worshippers were holding a service in the building in the town of Akyem Batabi in Ghana’s Eastern Region

The bodies of the 11 women, one baby and ten men killed have been extricated from the rubble of the collapsed building, according to news reports citing Rchard Amo-Yartey, an official of NADMO.

Dozens of people were injured in the collapse of the building which has been under construction since 1994.

More than 60 people were in attending the church service and many of them told local reporters that it is a miracle that they survived only with injuries or escaped unhurt.
