LILONGWE, 12 January 2021 – Two Malawian ministers died Tuseday within two hours of each other from complications triggered by the new coronavirus.

Malawi’s local government minister Lingson Belekanyama had hardly been dead two hous than the country’s transport minister Sidik Miadied as well.

The country’s information minister Gospel Kazako confirmed the deaths in a statement.

Over the weekend, President Lazarus Chakwera challenged fellow citizens in a radio address to stick with COVID-19 prevention measures.

The office of President Chakwera tweeted that Malawi had “entered the eye of this pandemic’s storm”.

Malawi has recorded 9,027 cases, with 235 fatalities and 5,838 full recoveries.
