MAPUTO, 12 November 2020 – The government of Mozambique has denied reports of mass beheadings by Islamic militants in the country’s northern province of Cabo Delgado.

There were no recent killings in any district of the province, the governor of the gas-rich province, Valige Tauabo, told reporters on Thursday.

The report of the beheadings of more than 50 people was reported last Tuesday by the state-owned media.

Tauabo said the last killings in the province by the insurgents took place last April 6.

He admitted that there were “incursions by evildoers”, adding that the military are tracking the insurgents.
