NIAMEY, 3 January 2021 – Unidentified gunmen have killed dozens of people in raids on two villages in Niger’s Tillaberi region.
About 49 people were killed 17 others injured in the Tchombangou and another 30 people were killed in the village of Zaroumdareye.

Tillaberi region, where both villages are situated, is in the tri-border area on Niger’s common border with Mali and Burkina Faso.

For years, the region has been plagued by jihadists.
Niamey has dispatched soldiers to the two villages, according to Niger’s Interior Minister Alkache Alhada.
He spoke Sunday on Radio France International (RFI).
An official from one of the villages was quoted by the French News Agency (AFP) on Sunday as simply saying many people were killed.
AFP quoted a local journalist as saying there were up to 50 deaths.
Boko Haram insurgents from Nigeria have also launched attacks on parts of Niger.
During last month, 27 people were killed duringattacks by Boko Haram in Diffa, southeastern Niger.
