MARTE, 17 January 2021 – Military authorities in Nigeria have praised soldiers in the far northeastern state of Borno for recapturing an army base seized earlier by jihadist militants.
Nigeria’s army chief of staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai, praised the air force for playing a decisive role in the operation.

Jihadists seized the military camp at Marte in Borno State.
Local residents said the fighting to retake the camp was ongoing for probably up to ight long hours.
The Islamic State in West Africa claimed responsibility for the attack on the camp.
The group said it overran the entire town and killed many sodiers, but both local residents and army sources said they jihadists were no match for the firepower the army brought in the retake of the camp.
