OWERRI, 7 January 2021 – The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has slammed Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, for arresting activists who shared video exposing alleged atrocities by Fulani herdsmen in the state.

IPOB says Governor Umahi is offering support to northerners against his own people reportedly because he hopes to be invited to run as vice-president during Nigeria’s 2023 presidential elections.

The governor recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to join the ruling All Progressive Congress.

“Although we are not surprised at such treachery, it defies logic that a sitting governor will rather choose to dine with the oppressors of his own people just for the derisive promise of an illusory vice-presidential candidacy to a Fulani presidential candidate in 2023,” the IPOB statement said in part.

The Igbo-dominated organization led by the charismatic Mazi Nnamdi Kanu described the actions by Governor Umahi as “foolishness and madness”.

The governor has chosen “to eat with the oppressors of his people”.
