Abuja, 14 February 2019– The political party of Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari has warned the United States and other foreign allies for reportedly making “unguarded” public statements ahead of presidential elections which hold over the weekend.

The warning seems to be in reference to statements warning against vote-rigging and election violence issued by the USA, Britain and the European Union.

The US State Department last week stressed the need for Nigerian security services to provide a safe and secure environment for the Nigerian people in order to vote.

Five supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party were killed last Sunday in clashes with opposition supporters.

President Buhari is running for a second four-year term against former vice-president Atiku Abubakar.

Most observers expect the vote to be very close.
