FREETOWN, 17 December 2020 – Sierra Leone has won a whopping $400 million from the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
On the MCC website, the only project highlighted remains the partnership reached with Sierra Leone “to implement a $44.4 million threshold program to improve access to clean water and reliable electricity” and to deepen reforms to stem corruption.
The Sierra Leone Telegraph which provided the $400 million amount said the compact program will follow the successful $44.4 million threshold agreement.
A statement by the U.S. Embassy in Freetown did not specify the amount of money Sierra Lone has secured.will have access to.
The $44.4 million threshold agreement between MCC and Sierra Leone was invested in improving water and electricity services in the greater Freetown area.
Since its inception, MCC has invested more than $13 billion in economic growth projects around the globe.
MCC projects are expected to benefit about 190 million people worldwide, the majority of them in developing countries.
