PUNTLAND, 5 November 2020 – Two men who raped and murdered a 14-year-old girl have been sentenced to death in Puntland, a self-proclaimed republic in war-torn Somalia.

The men – Abdirahman Mohamed Isaq and Mohamed Abdi Faray – confessed to the kidnapping, rape and murder of the young girl.

The crime left locals in the city of Bosaso shocked and bewildered.

News reports on rape suggest that sexual violence is on the rise across Somalia.

Last September, a 19-year-old girl was gang-raped and thrown off the roof of a six-storey building in the capital, Mogadishu.
