LAKE ALBERT, 24 December 2020 – At least 26 people have been killed in boat accident on Lake Albert.
The lake is situation on the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

At least 21 people were rescued when “strong wind” caused the overloaded vessel to capsize, a marine officer told reporters.
The boat was traveling between two locations on the Ugandan side of Lake Albert when the accident occurred last Wednesday.
Victims are said to be both Ugandan and Congolese nationals.

Officials in both countries blame their opposite number for not doing enough to prevent accidents.
.Most accidents on Lake Albert have been blamed on overloading, non-compliance with best practice in navigation standards and vessels in very poor condition still allowed to navigate the waters.
