KAMPALA, 3 March 2021 – A 40-year-old man has been arrested and is set to be charged with the murder of his wife reportedly because she took family planning pills without his consent.

Police in Amuru District in northern Uganda arrested Robinson Ojok after his wife, Beatrice Amito, died from her injuries as she was being rushed to Lacor Health III in Pabbo Town Council.

Ojok reportedly beat up and fatally injured Amito, 30, a mother of seven who did not wish to have any more children.

Neighbors say Ojok was in a mad fury as he beat his late wife after learning that she had been taking family planning pills to control birth.

“Upon her death the locals immediately arrested Ojok and handed him over to Police at Pabbo Police Station,” said Charles Openy, the Local Council One Chairperson for Olinga Village.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing at the Pabbo Police Station, according to Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema told reporters Tuesday.
