HARARE, 23 January 2021 – Lawyers representing Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono continue to be denied access to their client by prison officials at the Chikurubi Maxiumum security Prison.
Chin’ono faces charges of publishing a false story after he retweeted a video which turned out to be false.

The tweet claimed that a Harare police officer had beaten a child to death.
Counsels for two senior MDC Alliance officials held with Chin’ono, Faszayi Mahere and Job Sikhala, were also turned away from the prison.
The lawyers are members of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights which represents the three.
The lawyers were hoping to have lawyer-client confidential briefings and were also bringing Chin’ono and the other detainees some food and other provisions, including water which is scarce at the prison.
